How To Weekend In The UK From the US

It seems tough to imagine but we’ve done this multiple times for weddings/football matches/other events — it is possible to do comfortably and enjoyably.

These things help:

Choose Your Flights Carefully

A direct flight makes a big difference, as does coming from the East Coast. Fly as late as possible in the day to maximize your sleeping time on the way over. Flights are usually cheapest early February and mid September, especially if you book early.

Prioritize Ruthlessly

If you’re going for something specific, make that the main focus of your plans and don’t compromise it. Fill in other important experiences around it as time allows without deviating your travel path. Don’t expecting to have time to ‘float’ or be flexible with casual arrangements.

Don’t Try To Beat Jet Lag

Take quick power naps if you really need but otherwise power jet lag. If you can drag yourself out of bed and make it to the afternoon, your body clock will be a big assist in evenings. You have the never-ending flight back to catch up on naps before landing back still set on US body clock.

Bonus tip — if you’re flying back from LHR in the morning then catch that Full English breakfast experience at Gordon Ramsay (T5) or Heston Blumenthal’s Perfectionist Cafe (T2).

Have a great weekend!
